UNICEF Malaysia organised a capacity development workshop to empower children and young persons for environmental and climate justice

UNICEF Malaysia, with the support of UNICEF East Asia Pacific and King & Wood Mallesons organised a capacity development workshop on legal empowerment to advance children’s climate and environmental justice on 30 March 2022.

The session introduced the findings and recommendations of a report on the impact of climate change on children in Malaysia by UNICEF, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (which we relied on in our SUHAKAM complaint on haze pollution) and discusses the role of the legal profession, businesses, media and other stakeholders in empowering children and young people to advance climate and environmental justice.

Jia Yaw shared about the work of the Malaysian Bar in democratising legal knowledge, including contents about environmental rights and how to exercise them. He also took the opportunity to share some candid thoughts and advice to young activists.

The primary audience were young persons ranging from 9 to 35 year olds.
